A mandatory certification mark that indicates an AI system's conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the EEA.
For high-risk AI systems under the EU AI Act, the CE mark is affixed after a successful conformity assessment and the drafting of an EU Declaration of Conformity. It acts as a passport, allowing the AI system to move freely across the European single market.
Real world example:
A developer of an AI-powered medical diagnostic tool affixes the CE mark to their software after verifying it meets all Article 9-15 requirements and passes an audit by a Notified Body.
