Non-Human Identity (NHI)
A digital credential used by an AI agent, bot, or service to authenticate and interact with enterprise systems.
As AI agents become autonomous, they require their own identities separate from the humans who created them. Managing NHIs involves assigning unique IDs, rotating credentials, and enforcing task-scoped permissions to prevent agents from inheriting over-privileged access that can be exploited by attackers.
A marketing agent is assigned a Non-Human Identity with Read-Only access to the CRM; this identity is revoked automatically the moment the campaign-summary task is finished.
