Conformity Assessment
A process to determine whether an AI system meets specified requirements, standards, or regulations, often involving testing and certification.
An official procedure (e.g., against IEEE, ISO, or sector-specific standards) that verifies technical performance, safety, and compliance. It typically includes lab tests, documentation reviews, and on-site inspections. Certification bodies issue compliance marks, and organizations must renew assessments as standards evolve.
An autonomous-vehicle supplier submits its perception module to a conformity assessment against ISO 26262 (functional safety). The testing lab verifies fault-tolerance mechanisms, reviews safety documentation, and issues a certificate - allowing the supplier to market the module as safety-certified.
